Since 1952, volunteers have been the backbone of Pet Haven and allowed us to keep our administrative costs down so public donations can go directly to animal care.
As a volunteer you'll need to do a few things to ensure your safety, the safety of the animals, and the safety of shelter workers and visitors.
Our volunteers support Mayhew in a number of areas including reception, events, driving, fundraising, fostering, animal care, home checking and as Trustees. Working as a volunteer will enable you to gain valuable insight in the specific type of animal care that you aspire to work in.

. When supervised by a parent or guardian, kids can volunteer to help with cleaning, walking and caring for the animals. It's always best to ask in your application as the age limit can change depending on the type of volunteer roles available and health and safety requirements at the location.
Volunteering your time is one of the best ways you can contribute to our life-saving work. Talk to a supervisor about the possible need for a rabies vaccination and any other preventive measures, then sit down and learn all you can about the system in place to exercise and socialize shelter dogs. m. Due to training, we ask our volunteers to commit to volunteering at least 2 times a week (3-hour shifts) for at least 3 months. One adult can supervise two minors. This critical role directly supports our operations.
